Can I bring my own portable bbq grill to the beach?

Wednesday, 24. February 2010

Are we allowed to bring our own bbq grills to Huntington Beach, California? My friend is going to have a bonfire and we were wondering if we were allowed to bring a portable bbq grill to the beach, and use the grill on the beach. Last time we went there, there was a certain rule about the bbq grills, the fire could be a danger? I wasn’t really sure what was happenning but the people next to us got a ticket for having an open flame out of the pit.

I tried to find the rules on the website, but it did not say anything about bbq’s on the beach. Does anyone know where I can get the rules and regulations of the beach on bbq grills?

The one we are planning to bring is similar to this shape and size:

If you are on the camping area of the beach ( usually a 5 dollar fee to get in) , but not in the day use area.

Are fire pits legal in Skokie IL.?

Tuesday, 23. February 2010

My friends are having a party and I was wondering if a portable firepit would be legal. They live in Skokie. Is there a website I can look it up. I guess I would need it to show their parents, they are really uptight.

Call the fire dept. and ask. That’s what I did here in Roselle. The rules here are something like at least 40 feet from house and have an active garden hose standing by. They basically told me if nobody complains (neighbors), don’t worry about it. But if a truck comes out, it could cost you. I think they said first time a truck comes out, its a warning. If they come again, then you pay. It’s been awhile since I called so can’t remember exactly.

Can I use fake logs (compressed wood) in portable outdoor fire pits?

Monday, 22. February 2010

There should be no problem with doing this. Fake logs are compressed sawdust. Usually nothing more is added, but occasionally wax. Fumes from these logs shouldn’t be much different than ordinary firewood. I wouldn’t enjoy breathing them in, but I certainly would roast marshmallows over the fire. Duraflame says not to cook with them, but doesn’t cite toxic fumes as a reason. Check out the links below.

Portable Fire Pit in Apartment Patio?

Sunday, 21. February 2010

Does anyone know the safety rules about having an outdoor fire pit/bowl in a backyard apartment patio? My genius new neighbor decides to light a fire in his backyard in a densely populated building. Smoke was filling the night sky and our apartment. When I asked him to stop he seemed dazed and obliged, but reluctantly. It’s totally not the right setting to have a fire pit in and I am still in shock someone could be so stupid to light one up. Get this. The apartment manager gave the newbie tenant the fire pit. Do I call the fire department to issue a citation or take them both to court and sue for thousands for endangering mine and my family’s life?

There were no actual damages, therefore nothing to sue for. I’ll admit it was rather stupid. I teach 5th grade and something completely lacking in young adults is common sense. If it happens again call the police.

how do you make a fire pit?

Sunday, 18. October 2009

i need a portable one, or just a way to make a temporary one at the beach. i want it kinda big, cause theirs going to be a decent amount of people there.

First off, check with the county, city or whatever.
There are many ways to make one.
Dig a pit.
Stack the fuel,(lumber, wood) on top of the rocks that you placed in the bottom of the pit.
Rocks are optional, but for cooking pig or something are essential.
Some use green palm leaves to line them.
I don’t.
Ok, dig the pit, far away from any growth. Line it with rocks on the bottom. Stack the fuel Boy Scout style, like a tee pee.
Use some type of starter, dried brush, twigs to start it.
Keep the shovels handy, and two or three 5 gallon buckets of sea water at three points around it.
But unless it is a private beach, I think Bon Fires are against almost every fire code.
Contact your state DOF, EPA, County, Fire Marshall, and police to ask.
Now you could use Tiki Torches, they are much safer, sorta, but is still fire, and most of USA has been in some kind of drought, so ask the officials before starting any fires.

Is it better to build your own fire pit or just buy a portable one from a store?

Thursday, 15. October 2009

I want to build a fire pit in my backyard however i do not know if it would be better to build one or just buy a steel one. is it easier to clean? will i have to do more work in the long run with my own?

Wouldn’t it be more satisfying to build your own? It’s not all that hard, just have to make sure that when you place the rocks around the perimeter that you build a test fire. Let it go for several hours and keep an eye on it. You want to make sure you heat the rocks up really good and hot….in case there’s any water in them. They can pop if the water inside boils and expands.

What You Need To Know About Glassware And Fire Pit Glass?

Tuesday, 13. October 2009

One of my friends asked me about fire pit glass and I found I had absolutely no idea about what he was talking about. I am a person who relies a lot on the internet and hence, I immediately went to check out what definition the web gives for glassware and fire pit glass. I was surprised to find precious little on the web; there are very few things that the World Wide Web does not have in depth information on and it seems like the glassware and fire pit glass is one of them.

Searching Details and Meaning of Glassware and Fire Pit Glass

Exiting the vast web, I turned to my friends and books to find out about glassware and fire pit glass. Again, I came up with very little information. Some of my friends were of the opinion that the term indicated the use of glass in making fire pits. Using this hint, I looked up again seeking information from this angle.

This time, I was luckier. I did find some descriptions of glassware and fire pit glass but the description was not sufficient for me to gather an in-depth idea about the term; neither could I get any more leads. Out of what I read, I gathered that glassware and fire pit glass, as a term/phrase may be referring to the fancy glass fire pits that are becoming so popular.

The glass fire pits are usually made out of glass, aiming at making them look like they are holding burning embers or wood logs. This sometimes looks extremely authentic, so much so that many people do not believe it is a fake or an imitation unless they touch it. These fireplaces are not only looking great, but also make for some extremely exquisite and unique interior decoration pieces.

There is a great deal of utility attached to this beautiful portable glass fire pits. Besides the fact that they enhance the beauty of any interior, they can also be used outdoors. The designs of these glass fire pits are becoming better and better by using the right color combinations for making it look like the real thing. These colors include fire-orange, white, iridescent blue, purple, red and many combinations between these colors which give a very realistic look.

Hence, in the end I did get some details on the term, glassware and fire pit glass, though not in the measure I would have liked to have information. However, at least I got an idea about what the terms implies and hopefully so did you.

An inexpensive home fire pit?

Monday, 5. October 2009

I’m looking for a Christmas gift for my mother and I know how bad she would like one of those outdoor firepits. (Not one that you construct, but a smaller, somewhat portable, pit) I’ve seen them at a few places but they’re always outrageously priced. Do you know where I can get a decent fire pit for under $100? (I really don’t expect to spend much more than $70, but the cheaper ones are harder to find.)

The one she was interested in is sort os shaped like a giant wok with legs.

Wal-Mart, Lowes, Home depot all have great choices!!!
